Valleywag is such a drag

October 23, 2008

BPO Union is something that the guys at Valleywag do not comprehend. Not our observation, it’s by their own admission. Here is what Paul Boutin said in his blog titled ‘Why I don’t make fun of bill collectors’ – maybe because he hasn’t paid his bills and making fun of the collectors can be at his own expense. Here is what he said:

I had no idea what this email was about. It seemed designed to get me to go to some website. For a second I thought, what if I forgot to pay Barney’s New York again? Do they harass you online now? Yet after I clicked the URL at the bottom, I still didn’t understand the story. Is it a blog, a splog, or a dog? On the Internet, David Sedaris might drone, no one can tell if you’re human. Chief, if you want my attention, send me your next layoff.

Let us get the poor guy off the hook by easing his load. He is so confused – we’ll try to answer his queries. Self confessed ‘wags’ (we all know what a wag is :-) ) cannot do much so they will say something banal and hope it impresses people for want of inference.

It was designed to give wags some information since they are always seeking it – ‘information mongers’. Then he remembered his bills – he can thank us for reminding him – let us not blame him since the US is going through one of its worst recessions of recent times. Let us pray for him so he can pay his bills on time. He says next that he still did not understand the story – Dah! what can we say to that friends. When his confusion became unbearable, and it does happen to wags with low IQ levels, he started doing what someone like him would do naturally. He forgot his manners and obliquely called us a ‘dog’ or he was trying to be racist directing insults towards us Indians. To top it all he wanted to know if we wanted his attention. When he sat down to write his piece on us, we already had his attention. Why would we want something that we already have now. Funny guy, you know, we’ve started to like some bits of him.

Dear Friends,

We’ve received innumerable emails suggesting that we include lighter moments from our daily work.

This is an invitation to send us interesting stories, pictures from parties, events in BPOs/ Call Centers/ KPOs/ LPOs and all even from IT Companies. It’d be nice to see you enjoy and sharing some of it with the rest of us. So start sending and keep it coming. Cheers.

Meanwhile please keep supporting the petition for laid-off friends at Keane:

BPO Industry Association concedes to BPO Union

July 21, 2008

BPO Association concedes to BPO Union – accepts the need for a Union in the BPO Industry for the first time

BPO Union made an impact today with the BPIAI conceding – for the first time ever – the need for a BPO Union. Ref a statement made in Hindu Business Line. Thats base one. Until now the associations were vehemently opposing unions in the BPO Industry. They seem to be changing stance now, knowing that times are changing. Good for them, the sooner they realise that we are here to assert our rights the better.

We are not in a tug-of-war; we do not see this as a win; yet we thought it necessary to bring to light the fact that our combined force has shown result. More will naturally follow. Ahoy to the power of the internet.

Meanwhile please keep supporting the petition for laid-off friends at Keane:

“BPO Union” No 1 on Google / Yahoo / AOL / Rediff / Indiatimes …

June 21, 2008

Within days of existence, our Technology guide has worked a miracle for us. “BPO Union” is No 1 on Google Search and very highly on almost all popular website like Yahoo/ Rediff/ Sify/ AOL/ MSN etc.

Try searching for “BPO Union” on any of them (and more) to see for yourself.

Our Marketing guide has taken this initial lead by Technology as a personal challenge and promised to make us the leading blog in the BPO industry globally, in less than 6 months.

We hope that these two keep fighting :D and keep pushing the bar for each other. The final effect is – benefit from their internal competition. As long as the results work for us we’re not complaining.

Cheers,

Chief

Open Letter to Journalists – Thank You!

June 20, 2008

Dear Friends,

We heartily appreciate your interest in us. For record, we have by now received 14 mails from leading journalists across media requesting an interview.

There is a lot of negativity associated with “Unions” in India and we as a people have yet to embrace the greater meaning of what a Union can be besides its ugly face which is most visible, unfortunately.

We decided that to put as many people and companies at ease as we can, we shall shy away from physical display of any kind. We are however open to answering your questions but shall restrict to online activity. In fact we will desist from any activity except creating a strong platform online. If time and necessity so desires we shall create a physical (offline) presence but that seems a distant act. Until then we are open to communicating with you on/ through our blog and e-mails – we would most appreciate if you ask your questions openly on the blog itself. We do not have a nominated spokesperson and choose to live and work in personal oblivion.

We do have a team of very highly qualified (experienced) comprising PR, Technology, Marketing and Legal guides who tune our strategy and we are well funded for our purpose. Our blog will be updated and ‘key partnerships’ will be visible soon. Keep visiting us and you’ll find us to be very friendly online hosts too! Hope to see your comments (questions/ interview) online. When you do ask questions, for complete transparency, do mention the company that you represent. We assure you that you shall not be disappointed in us … we shall always be open to criticism as well as share all we can with you … only no names please. Not for now at least.

Thanks again.

Warm regards,

Chief
