Are BPOs scamming & stealing employees’ money?
Last week we received a mail which shook us in the roots. The details could easily qualify for a well researched, in fact detected, piece of information. It may be the biggest SCAM by BPOs so far. Consider this. BPOs are keeping their employees ‘temporary’ so as to slip through nimbly between the lines of Labor Law compliance. More permanent employees means more PF (and other statutory) compliance to keep, which are additional ‘costs’. Plus fewer ‘paid leaves’ to such employees. That’s savings of a few crores each for every BPO. If that is not a SCAM, then what is – Lets question these policies.
Not to mention the repressive practice of treating us like ‘use-and-throw’ utilities. It is easier to fire a ‘temporary’ employee than a permanent one. We are soon filing at least 300 RTI applications with the Labor Department – their commissioners are sleeping (they must be fired for dereliction of duty, and we have yet to find out if they are colluding with BPOs) while BPOs blatantly twist and turn laws to their convenient interpretations. Once we exert enough pressure on the Labor Commissioners we will try to get a formal list from them as their finding on what these companies are doing. We will then publish it right here for all to see. Let these BPOs know we are coming after them unless they restore to better means of doing business.

Chief,
Am keen to hear more! Are BPO resources being staffed on temporary basis for work that is “permanent” (i.e. more than 6 months of a single year)? Which BPOs are these and in a growing market, who are these resources who are willing to join as temps?
You know, in the US, when companies intend to take staff statutory costs away – instead of retaining permanent headcount, they take temp staff in the US or even better go for offshoring to India, giving birth to BPO!

It is high time that all the stakeholders in BPO industry should come out of slumber and take head on the insensivities shown by the employers towards their employees. For example, in Citigroup Global Services Limited, the callesr are made to stretch working hour for 15 day a month to work for 11 hours a day without any compensation, though even if given, most employees would not take at the expense of their health, physical and mental. I sincerely hope that such issues are taekn up with the regulatory authorities to stop rampant torture of the employees.

Hi,
Its good that you people are doing something for exploitations done in the bpo industry. There are many illegal practices done in bpo industry from sexual exploitation, emotional and mental harassment, giving less salary, force fully doing overtime, terminating emplyees and then taking younger workforce and then again doing the same dirty politics with them till they are terminated. We employees do as they tell as we need money and the leadership team support them and carry out their dirty politics of playing various with innocent employees spoiling their carreer and time. They give wrong image to the outer world through their branding strategies and slave shops are run inside the a/c spaces. There is a urgent need to bring the true picture before general people so that future generations are not exploited through greedy industrialists.

i m working in a international bpo.I have seen in most of the bpo’s employee harrasment is too high.
They are paying nothing & want 100 % productivity from us.Otherwise,we would be terminated. The worst scenario is they are hiring fresh ones to save their cost and want to throw old employees without any reason, just to save cost & appraisal. The governmant is sleeping on this issue, they are more keen on winning elections. And spreading this rumours that this is a economically developed india where employee life is even worse than slaves.
As i can understand lay-offs in european markets, because the salary structure there is too high. However,in india international bpo’s are paying nothing & require zero% tolerance policies.
